Chances are you do not think of your property as a wildlife preserve. We were taught that plants are decorations and for our enjoyment only. This attitude has resulted in a devastating decline in the the species of plants and animals that run the world. The good news is that you can make a significant positive impact in your own yard. This presentation will
demonstrate that fallen leaves are not litter, but rather are an essential year-round life support system for a complex food web. We will learn about some of the insects and mammals who utilize fallen leaves and discuss simple strategies you can employ to make a difference. The future is in our hands.
Cheryl Duber has been a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist since 2001. She is also a former zookeeper which allowed her to experience the wonder of biodiversity up close. Her passion is educating people about the importance and joy of gardening for wildlife.
This program is sponsored in part by the Garden Club of Nyack.
