Event Details

Most, but not all, of our band members were kids growing up at the dawn of Rock & Roll. On New York AM radio we caught Rhythm and Blues like Jocko Henderson and his Rocketship Show. Then came Alan Freed’s Moondog Show and Murray the K and his Swinging Soiree, Cousin Brucie (Morrow), Scott Muni, Wolfman Jack and Scott Shannon. We went to the Alan Freed shows at the New York and Brooklyn Paramount (1954-1959). We checked out movies like “Rock Around the Clock” and “Bye Bye Birdie”. We danced to the music on Philly based American Bandstand with Dick Clark. Later came FM radio, the Bottom Line, Fillmore East and CBGB.

In 2016 in our drummer’s ( Steve L.) family room along came Bart P. with his rockin’ guitar and original music. Then Dave D. brought his rhythm guitar and his love of singing Doo-wop songs. Then Mike R. and with his sweet 12 string guitar (and vocals). Followed by our newly minted bass player and vocalist Mike A. who was looking for some guys to jam with. We needed a keyboard player – so why not a classically trained musician and Choirmaster who played in a rock band in high school – Steve I. Finally, we needed a horn so along came Ed S. who pulled his trombone out of mothballs. And the GRANDPA band was born. We love keeping old time rock and roll, blues, rockabilly, C & W, standards, and folk alive. The only thing better than listening to this music is PLAYING IT! We hope you will come and share the joy with us.
