Presented by CCE Environmental Educator Jen Zunino-Smith

Learn how your gardening practices impact the health of our local waterways and marine life.

Excess nutrients from fertilizer, sediment, grass and leaf clippings create extra phosphorus in our water, leading to algae and harmful algae blooms. Jen Zunino-Smith will discuss how our lawns and fertilizer use have impacts on surface water quality in Rockland, and what we can do to minimize this. She will also discuss where harmful algae blooms (indices of poor practices) have been confirmed.

Jen Zunino-Smith also manages the Stormwater Consortium of Rockland County. She was previously employed at the NYSDEC, Division of Water as a stormwater specialist. Prior to her time at DEC she was employed with a consultant firm working mainly with NYCDEP's drinking and wastewater systems.

Registration is required.
